Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Safety Advocate maintains constant visual observation of the assigned patient(s). Assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. Communicates observations of the patient activity and behavior on a regular basis to the assigned Registered Nurse. Communicates with the patient and family members in a professional manner demonstrating respect for the patient, family, and other health care members. Provides support to peers and staff with other non-clinical duties as assigned. Job Duties/Responsibilities: *Assists the patient with minor daily activities; attends to the needs of the patient (within scope- non clinical). * Avoids and prevents injury to self by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit/facility. * In compliance with information contained within the infection control manual (i.e. OSHA blood borne pathogen standards and CDC guidelines) demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment and handwashing techniques.
